We would recall him in later years around Herb Walters and with Silverlakes Clark an Walters, etc. as Sonny and Dot Burdette and their various acts, juggling, foot juggling, etc. He was kind of short in stature and she extremely tall. I recall his toupee and the beautifully painted and well maintained props.Seemed they were low key and pretty much stayed to themselves.
I just reminded Mary Ruth about Sonny and Dot Burdettee and she mentioned them on Suesz Clyde and Hagen Bros. aswell and noted they were from Plymouth, Indiana.
I think they had a dog act.
The Burdettes were fixtures on Herb Walters shows of the 50s and 60s; later with Bill Griffith. Last saw them on King Bros. in the early 70s when Bob Couls was mgr.
Sonny also did vent in the sideshow. As I recall, he was billed as "Prof. Conroy."
According to Bob Parkinson's book, Conroy Bros circus was out from 1928 - 1939. LeRoy Easter was also listed as properitor with Small Burdette.
Worked with Dot and Sonny for many years on the Jay Gould Circus. This was in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Still stay in contact with Dot. she lives in Plymuoth, Illinois.
