I was just a teenager when I first saw Pat Anthony work on the Hamid show in 1964. There was NO WAY he would allow me close to the arena for photos. "Get away from here kid". Finally, 8 years later, Buckles squared it away with Pat for me to do these close up photos on the Miller-Johnson Show.
Some years later I showed these to Pat, and he said "These are GREAT, I wish the #%@& I had you taking pictures for me years before that"
I recall the vist at Gee Gee's with Pat Anthony & Patricia White back in 1987. I wish I could have recorded the conversations that took place. That was the last time I ever saw Pat Anthony, (see photo #4).
i think everybody who has ever needed photos and has seen jim's work wishes they had been fortunate enough to have had him around when publicity photos were needed.
Jimmy: There's some clairvoyance afoot. I was about to ask the same question, and am ashamed I don't know. I believe it was 1988 that Pat died of cancer, but I don't know the date, and worse, I don't know for sure where he is interred. Gee Gee thought it might be at the big cemetery in Manasota. I recall he came from Cleveland, Ohio. I also remain uncertain if he is buried under his original name, Anthony Patrick Vitanza. I trust that someone will kindly provide this information.
The memories keep flooding back. In about 1967 or '68, Pat played the Hollywood Paladium, a big TV variety show then. Uncle Ben and I drove down from the Oaks to visit on the Paladium parking lot. Bill Johnston called Pat at the hotel, and he came over and took us all to dinner. And like Jim said, I wish I had recorded the conversation that night.
I knew something wasn't right. The TV show was the old HOLLYWOOD PALACE series, which began in 1964, and taped at 1735 Vine, in Hollywood. Go to their site via IMDb, click on host Steve Lawrence, click on CAST LIST, and we find the night Ben and I visited was March 4, 1967, for show 4:23--4th season, 23rd episode. Co-stars were Bill Dana (My name...Jose Jimenez), Phyllis Diller, and the Rhodins. Look further for many circus acts on the entire series. The producers had come to Pat, Hollywood being Hollywood, asking if they could re-paint his props. He agreed, if they would paint them back like he had them. When I looked, I thought, Dear God, when Pat sees these...his fighting act props were now in pastels--fuchcia, chartreuse, and pink. Bill Johnston walked away, shaking his head. When Pat walked in, he laughed so hard he almost couldn't work.

Does any one recall the year he died?
