this is a different susan lacy. this susan, who married cemon, was part of the incredible lacy troupe of rolling globes. her parents started the seal act when the globe act retired. incidentally, another member of the lacy troupe, doris, married wally naghtin. the lacy globe act was a beautiful, classy act and a real show-stopper when they had all five people on the top level of the inclined ramps.
For over fifty years John Cuneo has had a number of the finest wild animal trainers in the world train and produce acts for him. Starting with Court trainer Joe Walsh who produced the incredible caged bear act with every known breed of bear. I have the greatest respect for Mr. Clubb but I am sure he would be aware of that fact. I just like to keep the records straight.
John, I ment the trainers Susan Lacey and Patricia White. Should have made that clear in my comment. I never knew Mr. Clubb. Mr Welsh was killed before my time but I knew ZEKE. Another great trainer that you did not hear much about.
For today's Spelling Bee (more often needed than some of us admit): I've seen Joe's name spelled in credible circus print both as Walch and Walsh. No one ever told me which is correct, but I lean toward Walsh.
Zeke visited Hoover, and I barely even saw her. She was gone before I could meet her. Everyone told me she was astute as a trainer, and among other superlative works, broke that fine tiger act that put Baudy on the map. After Baudy, I understood she re-married and was running a trucking firm out of Georgia. Anyone have an update?
In the January 2004 Kingpole magazine, Susan gives credit to her husband Martin (yes, they are still married), Jim Clubb, and myself. I don't know why I was included, as I only trained a young male tiger for her, before she left for Poland. She is retiring at the end of this year, and the tigers will be coming home. Met Martin Jr. last year and saw his fabulous act on Krone. Jim Clubb has been a great influence on many wild animal trainers, myself included. Like the things I learned from John Herriot about liberty horses, I will be forever grateful for, and can only repay by using those skills well. Wade Burck
I've learned from all the people I've worked with and around over the years. This includes the time I worked under you Wade. I will always appreciate the advice you gave me to go work under Buckles or Axel to get more elephant experience. Thanks!
To Roger S....according to Joanne Joys book WILD ANIMAL TRAINER IN AMERICA, this is how Joe Walch spells his name. He was a assistant to Alfred Court and later broke animals for Beatty and Willie Storey.

A 12 tiger sit up. Good job Susan.
John Cuneo said at the recent CFA Convention that Adam Burk (Wade's son) has added a surprise to his tiger act this year.
Susan is now in Europe with this act, and two of her sons, Martin and Alex are also presenting cage acts on German circuses, Krone and Barum.
We had Cemone with his chimps on the '72-'73 Castle show. His wife's name was Susan, and her parents had Lacy's Seals. Is this the same Susan Lacy?

Martin Lacy is one of the lion trainers for the new movie Flyboys that is in Theatres now. Susan Lacy also worked for Jim Clubb before going to Cuneo
We all (including me) flunked our spelling test! Her last name is spelled Lacey, with an "e" in there.
She also has an x husband who's name is Martin Lacey, who works cats. Would that be him in the movie? I haven't seen it yet.
It looks like Jim Clubb trained all the good animal trainers before Cuneo got them. He did a fantastic job.

Roger, I think ZEKE died of cancer quite a while back. I sure hope I am wrong.
I believe that Miss Lacey's education came from her ex husband and that Miss White worked wild animals long before her association with Mr. Clubb.
Pat White started at Jungle Larry's safari in the mid 70's. Presenting a group of four male lions broke by Roy Wells.
