Barnett/Wallace #5

This picure of "Little" Johnny Hartzell came from my mother's collection. As far back as the 1920's she had a hobby of adding color to pictures that she liked.

jOHNNY hARTZELL would pull on a ballpark with Gil Gray circus about an hour and half before showtime with a big silver walk in van pulling a big Sparton Mansion trailer. Helene and the kids would come tumbling out and within thirty minutes he would have the flying act rigging all set up and ready to go. Then he would put on a white coat, get his flash board and he was in business as the "bug man", that the little tots on the shoe referred to as 'The Comedians'. Allof us on the show enjoyed the salty humor of both Johnny and Helene and they were part of a great bunch of people on real good show. What a great group, starting with Gil and going down the line

At the time referred to in this previous comment young Johnnie as pictured was by then a very handsome, personable teen and was in the flying act with his mother on the pedestal board. He was a fine young man and all the young gals took a shine to him. Also it appeared that Johnny Sr. and Helene were a very devoted married couple. I can well understand the pride they must have had in later years with their own Wallace and Rogers Circus.
