A question for Jim Cole and/or Roger S.: I know Dave got some of the cats from the Pat Anthony act when it was sold. Is that the P.A. barrel in the background? Looks familiar.
Right, Jim A. I was with Dave when we went to Riverside to get the last of Pat's animals. Dave bought everything Pat had left, except the arena--wish I knew where it is today. Pat came into DeLand Winterquarters to work with Dave on mixing his cats with Dave's. Bill Johnston also arrived to help. Hoover also had Pat's rolling globe and its track.
Cindy Potter, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this bouncer John-John, whom I knew in '80-'81?
Barry the Big Top guy made extra money shining Hoover's chukka's. Anyone know who shined Mr. Beatty's?
A little history? All right. Along about 1939 or '40, Mr. Beatty set aside the field boots for longer trousers, which he had special made, and the ankle-high boots, called chukkas, and this style is what Hoover wears here. Dave had a pair of the high boots Mr. Beatty gave him that he wore in his first film, THE BIG CAGE (Universal, 1933). I asked Dave about making a specific donation of them. He concurred, and they now reside in a private collection.
We had Mr. Beatty's chukkas over in 78 sleeper one day, and I decided to try them on. I have a 9D shoe size, and I couldn't get my toes started in his small boots.

Noticed the cat went passed the pole to the leg of the chair.

Great Shot, looks like John-John (? maybe) has his foot on the popper of the whip as well. Nice shine on Dave's shoes.
