Jimmy Cole sent me this, pointing out that the Circus Boy TV program made it's debut Sept. 23, 1956, exactly 50 years ago today. The elephant was a young male from Jungleland named "Tusko" and was worked by Arky Scott. The boy of course is Mickey Dolenz.
My wife's birthday is a week from today and tonight we are taking her down to the Performing Arts Center to see a dance revue called "Fire and Ice". Dalilah came up with the idea since her mother is a great fan of the dance contest shows on TV, among which this one is somehow related. This means I will miss the Notre Dame-Michigan State football game. No greater love hath a husband.

From Eric:
I saw that premier broadcast of CIRCUS BOY 50 years ago today! It had something to do with Big Tim Champion (Robert Lowery) taking over as the new owner of the “Burke and Walsh Circus” (what a great show title) and right away having disagreements with the performers about his management style. The regular cast also included Noah Beery, Jr., Billy Barty, and Guinn “Big Boy” Williams. From time to time, great old character actors like Andy Clyde and Sterling Holloway would come in for an episode or two. As I recall, production values for the various episodes were top notch, and were further increased by the use of stock footage from old circus films like CHAD HANNAH.
In those days, the boy was billed as Mickey Braddock. I don't know where that handle came from--IMBd says he was born George Michael Dolenz, Jr. Arky said for a child actor, he was a very nice kid.
Wasn't he one of "The Monkeys"
Hey Hey we're the Monkees!
