The Sparks Circus was a highly regarded show owned by Charlie Sparks of whom my father once wrote "I never heard a bad word about Charlie Sparks or a good word for Walter L. Main". Mr. Sparks decided to sell his circus to another well known circus owner Henry B. Gentry, unaware that he was acting as an agent for Sparks arch-rival, the American Circus Corporation. As it turned out, this new ownership lasted less than a year since the Corporation (including five major circuses) was purchased by John Ringling in September.

Legal advisor - same as fixer?? How I wish my memory was like yours or I had written those after supper stories down. cc
Acually he may have been just an advisor if this he same John Kelley that was the long time Ringling Attorney.
If this is true he was still around in the 1950's when we played he Baraboo Fair. My father introduced me to him and I recall him saying that he wanted to start a Museum at the site of the Ringling Quarters which was still in act.
John C. Kelley listed in the Sparks program was no relation to John M. Kelley.
John M. Kelley, was the lawyer and later tax adjuster for the Ringling's. He graduated from University of Wisconsin law school and setup a practice in Baraboo, WI. He signed on with RBBB as a claims adjuster (also called a "fixer") in the early 1900's.
John M. Kelly founded Circus World Museum, Inc in 1954 as an entity that would later create Circus World Museum. The museum opened on July 1, 1959. Kelly saw his dream begin and died on 11/04/63.
Although the Circus World Museum's legal entity today is Circus World Museum Foundation, Inc. The entity "Circus World Museum , Inc." still exists as a support organization for the museum.
St Louis Zoo had a baby elephant born last night. A female.
I've always thought of a "legal adjuster" as a "patch" with a couple years experience reading the law. Even Sunday School shows like Sparks had the towner now and then with a beef in need of squaring, or the Chief of Police who wanted tickets for the whole department. Even today there are times when somebody needs to work outside the box office or near the front door massaging egos when folks complain about the small print on that free kid ticket etc.
Great news Dutchess! Maybe you can get them to name her after you! LOL! Monday afternoon, I was on my way to DFW airport to pick up my son who was off on vacation with my older bro in Virginia, and I get into a heck of a traffic jam on I-20 south of Dallas. Radio news reports say "stalled 18 wheeler" blocking lane. 40 minutes go by before I see the stalled truck. It's Carson and Barnes #59 two lanes over from me and I see the side doors open, I'm thinking its an elephant truck, but can't see who's drivin or attempting to drive as I'm over too far! Hope it wasn't Randy??
Randy is in Ohio right now. It could have been Louie Del Moral or Tim Frisco. Probably Frisco becasue i belive Louie is in Northern Michigan working C&B bulls on Baily brothers Circus
Louie en route to Universoul. randy is sweating putting up the tent here in Pennsylvania. If the littering the highways with busted elephant trucks was always good for mention on local drive time radio, that might be a stunt we could try in every major market.
Ben
Been there, done that on a sunday, back when we had two lane highways. Eugene and I had Kelly Miller elephants on the truck when we had a tire catch fire. Very loneley road in Iowa. Unloaded the elephants and fire trucks arrived to save the day. It was quite a day. When we arrived in CINN Gale Miller walked right by us not realizing who we were. When I got to the rest room I looked in the mirror and I almost fell down. Covered with soot. I remember the road had curbs. Don't know if that event made the papers as the town probably did not have a paper as far as I know.
Ben if Louie is at Universoul where is Tyroe then?? and are there Miller elephants on Walker Brothers this year?
