Happy Birthday Gee Gee!

A souvenir from the "Blond Bombshell's" birthday bash, listing the afternoon's events as presented by her son Bill Powell.
I might add that this soiree was better produced and more entertaining than the show that Mr. Powell works for.

Happy Birthday Gee Gee! I clearly remember when I worked for Gee Gee 26 years ago. As she approached her mid-50's, I commented to her how much I admired that she was so full of "P--- and vinegar at her age"! She gave that wonderful hearty laugh and said,"Honey, I'll STILL be full of it when I'm 80! You'd better hope your're going this strong when YOU reach your 50's!" Well, my 50's are here now, I've made it, and God love her, Gee Gee made it too. Buckles, do you have any other pictures of the B.B.B.P.(Blond Bombshell's Birthday Party) which you could post? Gee Gee has touched many lives in many ways; mine is one of them. (When she taught me the Calendar Mount, she said,"Not bad, kiddo. You'll never be as good as me or Barbara Woodcock, still, you're doing O.K. But for God's sake STOP STRAIGHTENING YOUR ARMS when you have a hold of the headpiece! GOD---M GIRL! You'll pop your elbows clear out of the sockets!" ) Sure wish I'd been at the party!

Bumps has been around the Ringling Show so long he can remember when Gunther was a brunette.
Someone must surely have taken some pictures but I don't have any, I was slightly indisposed.
During the interview for PBS I related the story where Gee Gee said "I don't know what it is with you bull men. Those gals smell that elephant shit on your clothes and go nuts!".

Buckles, I loved the line "around so long he can remember Gunther as a brunette."

Reminds me of one night in the early 70s in the Garden. I asked Gunther if he and Sigrid could join me after the show for dinner as the often did. "Not tonight, Jack," he said. This is the night I gotta wash my hair blond."

Bill had just graduated from USF in Tampa and paid me and Barbara a visit at the Ringling Park around 1974.
During the course of the day he asked who he would see about getting a job with the company. I either introduced or referred him to Alan Bloom and the rest is history.

Word got around that Alan Bloom and Charly Baumann had jobs for life with the Feld shows. Irvin Feld promised Charly so in a center ring ceremony upon Charly's retirement from the tiger act--at least as reported in the circus press at the time. Guys like this felt all set, until they found out upon Irvin's sudden demise, they were then working for Irvin's little boy, who felt no obligation whatsoever to honor a single word his father had spoken.

Buckles,

Thanks for publishing the program cover of mom's party. I apprecitate the acknowledgement on the production quality of the Blond Bombshell Birthday Bash. It was a labor of love. The event was planned using a technique I developed years earlier called Idea Processing. It is very similar to writing for film and video in that it creates visual story boards to advance a narrative.

The videographers we got to document the event tell me that they got some great material. I will share it once we compile everything. There are also some great still photos we will share.

Most importantly Mom was touched by the fact so many of her friends and associates were in attendance. It lifted her spirits and has given her new energy. She can't stop talking about it. I want to publicly thank everyone who came and shrared the day with her and also thank everyone who took the time to call in recorded greetings.

Regards,

Bill Powell
