Unidentified elephant #1

Sent by Chuck Pankow from a 1907 Chicago Daily News article regarding a Shrine event.
Possibly Mabel Hall's "Charlie".
My first thought was that since Ringling Bros. Circus opened indoors in Chicaco each Spring, he might be from their herd but I doubt it.

That headpiece looks like the one on the Barnes Program of Tucko or Diamond whichever one it is on it?

I noticed that too but in 1907 both "Diamond" and "Ned" were just little chittlins'.

Big boy, big ivory, wonder what the strap going behind front legs are?
Decoration or a flimsy pulling harness? I Have a couple photos of the 1901 herd in route on Ringling.I will look for this mammoth and also get you a copy. But we're still having computer glitches.

I think that is a harness. Another news aticle stated the Shriner iniatees were dragged by the elephant.
Unfortunately, there was no mention of the bull's name or what show.

The first Shrine sponsored circus was in Detroit in 1906, Milwuakee's Tripoli Shrine followed suit a few years later. So if it wasn't a Ringling elephant, it wasn't one from a Shrine sponsored circus.

I have seeen a number of photos of Ringling herd from around this time and cannot recall a tusker with fine ones like this. True, they had some males but the tusks were short as I recall.

Maybe the photo was not of a Shrine Circus but some other type Shine event.

Would you have any more photos of'Sahib"
the big tusker from the
Circus Frankello, circa 1964,that you could post?

Pilate(or Pilot)

Harry Mooney under the umbrella?

To Anonymous:
I don't have any more pictures of "Sahib". In fact the one shown came from Mr. Hoffman a friend.

Could this be the bull "Fritz" from Barnum & Bailey?

"Fritz" was killed the last year of the Barnum & Bailey European tour in France, June 11, 1902.
