Hubert Castle


Mr. Castle's true name was Hal Smith but with Seils-Sterling and Tom Mix circuses he was known as Hal Silvers.
John Ringling North didn't like either name and dubbed him Hubert Castle.

When I went up to Dallas, in the winter of 1971, to meet Castle to talk over my contract, this photo was prominent in his home. Some time previously, most of his collection had been consumed in a house fire. Many sent him items from his career. The child is Hal, Jr.
