Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus 1932/ Elephant herd

When John Ringling purchased the American Circus Corporation in 1929 the five circuses included 57 elephants ranging from 13 with Hagenbeck-Wallace to 9 with Sparks. By 1932 however, due to the Great Depression two of the shows had already been taken off the road.
The John Robinson elephants were divided between Hagenbeck-Wallace and Sells-Floto which was easily accomplished since all three herds shared the same barn in Peru.
Above we see Cheerful Gardner's 1931-32 twenty elephant herd with H-W and directly behind the second man from right are two of the males "Tommy" (one tusk) and "Prince".
Absorbing the Sparks elephants into the Ringling-Barnum herd was also a "no brainer" since the Sparks Show shared the Sarasota Quarters and all they had to do was change the title on the bull car. This brought the RBBB herd up to 41 dispite the fact that the 1933 "50th Anniversary" tour boldly claimed 50 elephants.

Dan. Where do you live? There are some Shrine dates with three rings of elephants.

In the 1950's we used to show the Duluth Shrine Circus with our family elephant act.
The event was held in an old Ice Arena and we had to lead the elephants up several sets of stairs to reach the Arena floor. Downstairs was a curling rink (the only time I saw that game played).
We housed the elephants in someones garage across the street and since they were still pretty small it worked out OK, I slept in front of them on a cot to prevent damage.
In another similar situation, I awoke one morning to find that "Anna May" had done my laundry (reached my trousers and chewed them up), gone was my wallet. I was told that when digested and passed thru if enough of the currency survived to provide a serial number I could get my money back. Alas, I searched and searched but not a trace appeared.

Dan. Carson & Barnes played the Twin Cities in '04 and '05 Gold Unit was there in '04 as well. When you're a couple years older you can make it to Shrine shows in IL and see three rings of bulls. (Assuming PETA lets you.)

I think he is at the Ringling Breeding farm? That's the last place I remember him being.
