News from the Left coast.
The California elephant bill, AB 3027, would set space requirements for elephants that cannot be met by most zoos and private facilities. It would ban elephant hooks and chaining, among other things. It would basically make it impossible for zoos and people like us to keep and work with our elephants. That's just what the animal rights activists want, no animals in human care, starting with elephants. For information on the bill go to www.leginfo.ca.gov.
AB 3027 has been referred to the California State Assembly Committee on Public Safety (www.assembly.ca.gov). Contact information for the committee members is attached. Please write, call or e-mail them to express your opposition to this bill. Letters are preferred and should be faxed to avoid being delayed by security.
Letters and e-mail should be polite and concise. Be sure to state your opposition at the beginning of the letter. You don't have to get into specifics about the bill, just let them know that you are opposed to it. Sign e-mail with your name and address. Please get as many friends and family members as possible to contact the committee. A sample letter is attached. Thank you.

Did some quick research - If anybody wants to send in a letter it is recommended you fax it. Standard letters now can be hung up by security.
Here is the FAX numbers for:

Fax: (916) 319-2177
The Honorable Rebecca Cohn
Fax: (916) 319-2124

The Honorable Todd Spitzer
Fax: (916) 319-2171
Thanks Shannon. I hope there will be lots of letters and faxes sent in answer to you information. It's important that we be heard as opposed to PETA and it's support groups.
Not sure about this. Does it cost money to receive a FAX on the machine. I was sending them left and right before I found it was charged on my phone bill. If so maybe the receivers might not appriciate the FAX.
The Committee Fax # is (916) 319-3745, if you want to send a letter to the The Honorable Mark Leno, Chairman, and The Honorable Mervyn M. Dymally, who are also committee members.
Even though faxed letters are the best method, the email addresses of the committee members are as follows:

The USDA seems to have different rules for different people and different places. They change the rules to suit some people and to harrass others. They are too wisy washy, but then again they are the government. Appointed and hired by those who haven't a club how to care for animals. All politics. The real animal person doen't stand a chance as we have learned these past years. Its all who knows whos butt to kiss.
I sent my letter and for once I hope the committee will take the time and reason this bill through. It should never have been introduced in the first place. So many people with good hearts have given money to animal activist organizations over the years thinking that the money was going to help some poor animal. Instead the money was being used to pay for slick advertising and lawyers to write and push bills likethe one in California. They have an agenda and it is POLITICAL no caring for animals going on. Don't believe me, check out the tax returns, its public record just use your internet and search. People who care should donate that money to the local animal shelters who are under funded and working hard in the local community or to programs that promote elephant conservation. Help keep the San Diego zoo open and help defeat the CA bill. I don't want to live in a world without animals and I don't want my children to have to learn about elephants, lions and tigers from a picture book!
Thank you for saying this. Too many people just let these things slide until it is too late. People ask me why I don't become Tax exzempt[?] and a shelter. Too many bad apples screwing the public that I don;t want to be associated with. TOO much butt kissing of those in elected office and their cronies that know nothing about animal care. They do anything to stay in office no matter how it effects our animals. I have personally seen a good animal person go bad because of politicks[?] I can rattle on, but you know what I mean. Thanks again for your input.
Ilike it a lotkeep up the good work
