To Boots

This is the Circus Williams elephant herd in Germany (including "Mary") before they came to the Ringling Show in 1969. Several times over the years I tried to get the background on these elephants from Gunther but he was not one to dwell on the past and was always rather vague.
I recall her as a good looking elephant with a big square head and would on occasion scrap with other elephants if provoked. I never had any dealings with her myself.
There are a number of elephant men who read this blog who might be able to add something.
I hope your tribute turns out well.

According to the Asian Elephant Studbook maintained by Mike Keele and Karen Lewis at the Oregon Zoo, Mary was born in 1952 in the wild. She is given the identification number of Stud # 121. She is recorded as going straight from the wild to Circus Williams in Germany but those actual dates are question marks.
