Clyde Beatty Circus 1951/ Back yard


This is opening day in Shreveport, La 3/17/51 and shows the band getting lined up for Tournament (Spec) while an elephant is being loaded up with a howdah. As you can see the back door is on the round end of the big top.

how the heck did they get the elephant in and out of the tent wearing that howdah? (not that I'VE ever had that "oh sh.." moment, LOL.)

That's a good question. People used to ask me how I got all three elephants into our truck. I usually said that we let the air out then pump them back up after they came out.
