Ringling-Barnum Circus/ Hugo Schmitt

This was a number called "Carnaby Street" and you may notice the flowers painted on the elephants. Weren't the hippies of the day called flower childen or flower child or something?

Hi Buckles,

Happy Thanksgiving. As I remember, the Carnaby Street number had a particularly good music score. The tunes included "I Think I'm Going Out of My Mind," "Georgy Girl," "Thunder and Blazes," "Lets Spend the Night Together," "Standing on the Corner," "Music to Watch Girls By," "I'm a Brass Band," "Step to the Rear," and "Tiger Rag." They kept this number intact and used it a second season on the newly constituted 1969 Blue Unit. This number could be revived today "as is" as "nostalgia" (much the same way they sometimes do "Roaring '20's" numbers.) Of course, they would have to get a few more elephants.

All the best,

Eric

Did Hugo ever wear circus wardrobe? Just from reading about him ,he would be my favorite old world trainer. I like his no nonsense ways. Hugo, Mr Woodcock senior and Eloise command respect from everyone. They did not suffer fools. Wonderful with animals, not so good with humans. If they liked you it made you feel important no matter what others might say about you,

Are any of the elephants personally trained by Hugo Schmitt still around?
