The animals Bobby's working are commonly called "dwarf zebus" as opposed to the full sized animals that Louie Reed rode, etc. I recall one of Bobby's zebus was a tough little guy and got several people. Bobby's parents brought the act from Charlie Allen for him. A few years later, winter 1965, he leased three elephants from D. R. Miller. I got a copy of his ad offering "Gibbs Royal Hindu Zebus" as an added attraction if you booked the elephants. He sold the zebu act about a year after he got in the elephant business. Jim A.
So this is really Bobby Gibbs? I have read so many nice things about him over the years. He was loved by many. My comment was off the top of my head and I had no idea that this was him.
Yes Rebecca, the legendary Bobby Gibbs didn't not always looked like the bearded Buddah seen pictured in Circus Report. He was a great guy -- a good animal man but better story teller and wonderful friend. Jim
Last time I visited with Bobby was in Athens,Tx 8 or 10yrs ago. He was running a Giant Rat show with Kelly Miller. Had a big Nutria in a box. He was so funny to talk too! He sure thought alot of you Buckles! The Chimp guy looked like Popeye and Roy and Cindy had the elephants. Gary
Buckles, would it be against the rules of this blog to ask who Rebecca is? I enjoy her comments to much; she seems to have a great knowledge of the Circus and it is obvious that she has been with many shows.
Just curious, from a short time First of May with the first Blue Unit.
Good evening George, good to hear from you again. Rebecca worked John Cuneo's white dog, zebra and leopard act that was presented in a steel arena. She remained with the act when John sold it to Carson & Barnes. Barbara and I know her from the time we spent around the show in those days, I might add that she was a knockout and according to people in the Herriott household that I visited yesterday, she remains so today.
Bobby Gibbs sounds like a person one would like to have as a friend. I never met the man but just from reading and hearing about him I know I would have liked him and I am not a people person. For years I have heard the name. Now I know who he is.
Buckles is the old elephant Shirley at TENN the same Shirley from Kelly Miller. I did some winter dates with her if this is the same elephant Are Marie and Ione still alive? Also was Shirley injured in that truck accident after the ship sank? Do you know who the driver was that was killed in that accident?
Got my elephants and wrecks mixed up. Too much Holloween candy. Lydia and shirley did not get along. Seems like Shirley out lived them all. Its hard to believe they are almost all gone. I have some very interesting times with these girls. Even the ladies they were named after are gone.

Is this animal like the one pulling the carriage in an earier photo?
Makes me think of Bobby Gibbs with a tipical circus renaming.
May Bobby REST IN PEACE!
The Gibbs picture says "Zebu" and who am I to say him nay?
Is this Mr Gibbs? I was just spoofing about the name. I have never met him as far as I know. I was writing about him, not the name of the animals.
