Programs are not my specialty but I have RBBB programs going consecutively back to 1925 and scattered Barnum & Bailey and Ringling programs prior to that. I stopped collecting them some time ago since they are so bulky, two books a year takes up too much room and as far as reading material goes, I was convinced long ago that Kenneth Feld is truly wonderful. In this program I counted 16 three ring displays. Among the animals alone were 3 rings of elephants, 3 rings of liberty horses, 3 rings of menage horses, 3 rings of bareback horses, 3 rings of dogs and ponies (featuring the Stephensons), 3 rings of exotic stock (camels and zebras) a display of chimps and bears and even a pidgeon act. In the steel arena Charly Bauman's tigers, Adela Smieja's lions and from the Althoff Circus the big tiger that rode the horse. Buckles

I recently went to the RBBB circus and was really disappointed by the performance. Do you know why the RBBB has gone down hill? I was really disappointed by RBBB becoming politically correct and having Question and answer period. I came to show to see animals do tricks and cool manuavers
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. Thousands of fans agree with you. We must get our circus back from the crazys.
I agree I saw the RBB circus and my family was really upset with the performances. What's wrong with RBBB circus or is the performers or management?
I thinks the performers just aren't as good as the last generations of performers. Too many performers are all about the pay check and don't have the work ethic as past performers.
Debbie,
I doubt that very much. Past trainers may worked harder but didn't adopt well. Trainers and performers now a days just work less hours but work smarter. They understand the how feel, think, and tap into the animals emotionally. Some trainers have the ability to hypnotize animals and transform there feeling into whatever they want.
I would like to see just how emotional you get trying to make emotional contact with a wild animal. Sure would not want to be barefooted around there. You are admiring the old timers pictures but are saying we did not adapt? Why is the public saying the circus is not what it used to be? I smell a/r here. Crap in every one of your words.
Rebecca and Debbie,
I am not putting down former trainers. It's just a matter of technique. I love these older pictures and would love to purchase them if I could. The fact remains the trainers today that have been trained corporate businesses like RBBB work smarter. Their techniques are more effecient and skilled.
Ben,
You are foolish. Corporate trainers are what ruined the circus. Why is everyone complaining about how terrible the circus acts have become. They corporate trainers lack the technique and emotional tide that older trainers and circus folk could bring to the show. That fact is 1950's 60s 70s were golden years for the circus and that's when the best trainers were around. Not he corporate scum of today.
Right on Larry! Too many mouths and not enough moxie. I for one would love to see some of these want to bes face to face with the animals and doubt if one of them would last a month on a real circus. No running water, no bathrooms, no electric and still made the world magic for thousands, and with a smile on our face and happyness in our hearts. And beautiful animals.
Buckles, who are all these people? You all need to Thank Buckles for shareing all this info with you! You can blame the people at PETA for ruining the animal acts!
Bite your mouth, you said the P word. That and the Tenn word are the curse of the animal world. Everything dirty and ugly in the animal world. Just watch how they will sneak in here and try to take over like they did Circus News. Now you can see real circus people who lived the life and know what they are talking about. Here are the beautiful people not people who comukate(?) with campfires and smoke screens. Everyone has commented on the beautiful and talented animals. They did not get that way roaming fields in bug infested swamp land.
I love to take their little papers they hand out and wad them up and throw them back in their face!
Use the papers to wipe the feet of those who step in IT.
We are jackpotting about the American Circus. The biggest danger to this way of life has placed a tibitan flag on the grave of one of the few elephants born in America. Tina. She was a Zoo elephant the died soon after being placed at that sanctuary. How very unamerican to do this. Tina was a young elephant to be placed at a place for old elephants. Even old elephants can still be useful as a teaching tool to the young, like at Riddles. Hands on learning, not watching a tv camera.
