Cole Bros. Circus 1944/ Helen and Arky Scott

We joined the Cole Show late in 1944, here is a picture of Arky and his next wife Helen. I don't recall much about the show that season since after a brief stay my mother and I took off for Hot Springs to get me back in school. The Ranch herd had been booked on the Orrin Davenport Shrine dates for the winter, the elephant "Joe" had been replaced by another dangerous elephant "Tony". Shortly after my dad returned home he received a telegram telling him to immediately fly to Wichita since "Tony" had downed Arky in the car while unloading. My dad finished out the dates with a 4-act and the Ranch herd remained at that number from then on. Arky recovered and was back in business for the 1945 season. Buckles
