This Evening's Quiz!

My wife and I can identify everyone except the gentleman in the center, despite the fact that she seemed to know him pretty well at the time.

Hershell
There are a few Feral House Cats in the area that I feed, they seem to prefer Kit And Kabooble.
Yesterday my wife snapped this picture through the sliding glass door of Hershell who has a home under the tool shed finishing things off.

Clyde Beatty #1 (From Eric Beheim)
One of the most famous incidents in the
history of the Ed Sullivan Show was Clyde Beatty’s 1957
appearance, back in the days when the show was done live. A black & white
kinescope (a recording of a television program made by filming the
picture from a video monitor) was made of that broadcast and still
survives.

In his book Facing the Big Cats, Beatty described what
happened: Under the big top my
arena is a circular affair, forty feet in diameter. For the purposes of the Ed Sullivan show this
had to be changed to a long narrow enclosure in which the pedestals were
stationed in a manner slightly unfamiliar to the animals.

on the stage we would have had the footing we needed, but for a variety of
reasons this was not feasible.

smooth hard surface of the television stage.

To steady himself, the
bewildered tiger made a reach for the bars of the arena and once he had a firm
grip on them he started climbing. If he reached the top it would not be
difficult to rip the safety net aside and jump down into the section where the
audience sat. [None of this appears in the
kinescope footage that is included in the Sullivan
retrospective.]

At a signal from Sullivan, the cameras
flashed to the studio audience. Sullivan
moved down into the studio audience, chatting affably . . . [with actor
Walter Brennan, who probably would much rather have been watching Beatty and his
crew trying to restore order.]

famous jockey Eddie Arcaro, who just happened to be sitting directly behind
Walter Brennan.
