For those who might not know, Clyde Beatty came through that door behind her for the last 5 years of his career. He had an all-new arena duplicated in 1960, in DeLand. Dave and Lois Hoover often bought retired cat act equipment. When Beatty died in 1965, the Hoovers came on the Beatty show for '66 with equipment of their own. They bought the Beatty cage and props. Some of these props came to Jungleland, and were in my lion act there. The arena was subsequently sold to Hubert Castle, who promptly dismantled it and rebuilt it to his liking--but he didn't alter this door. I worked in this cage for two years over there, and felt the presence of Mr. Beatty each time I entered. Upon Castle's retirement, his show, and this cage, was sold to Zerbini. A well-known fan in Texas told me he last saw the cage on a Feld property, laying stacked outdoors, a victim of the destructive climate of Florida.
