Still not the best spot to place himself. If Tusko lunges to his left, Barnes is caught in that shed. I worked on elephants with a guy in Alaska, who wanted to place me between the African female and the cinder block wall only eight feet away. I said no.

Placing these restraints on Tusko summons the old story of the fearful mice who convened to decide how to protect themselves from the house cat. One brilliant mouse advocated tying a bell about the cat's neck. But a senor mouse rose to ask, "And who among us will bell the cat?" Whatever courage it took to chain the elephant, my sympathies belong to Tusko.
