Speaking of grift...did anyone see the above article regarding the Shrine and the hanky-panky of money?

Remember the circus is raising money for the SHRINE ACTIVITIES (including the liquor) and not the SHRINE HOSPITALS, they are two distinct entities.

How many times have we seen a circus program cover with the picture of a Shriner and a crippled child? The correct photo should be a Shriner with a bag of golf clubs heading for the clubhouse for a couple of rounds after a couple of rounds.

The Shriners get 50 % of the elephant ride -- how about throwing A LOT of that money into the OABA fund to fight the animal fanatics.

Shrine Circus budgets are being slashed, performers can't afford to go on the road anymore, the quality of MOST shows are pathetic -- so where is the money going from the Shrine Circuses -- into the liquor cabinets that's where.

The good Shriners in the rank and file don't know the level of grift going on behind the closed doors.

Don't let the FEZ be pulled over your eyes any longer.

Talking about the shrine the circuses that they put on in my town the money that was raised was for there big parties they had.
If any money was given to the charties it was very little.
They would get a circus out of Florida and put on a show that was really on the cheap.
The intermissions would run 45 minutes and the first show always ran into the second show so everything ran late.
Way back we used to get Clyde Bros. in an open air horse arena and it was a first class show.
You pay for what you get.

Are you for real??? You want to dictate the Shriners 50%? The "grift" of the Shriners? That would sure seem like the pot calling at the kettle to me. What do you think the phone promoter says when he is phoning for the mudshow being brought to your home town by the local fire dept? Did you think they were gonna buy a new engine with their 20%? (the phone guy gets 50% and the show gets 30%)or can they play a couple rounds, after they have a couple rounds?

All of the contracts I handled for C&B were 50% for the promoter, 25% for the show and 25% for the sponser. Back in the 50's CBCB had a $100,000 phone promo in Milwaukee and did no get much in the way of attendance.
I get a lot of calls at my business from phone rooms and if the person sounds to be young, I ask if they are getting 25 or 30% like most phone people get and there is dead silence. I then ask if they are paid by the hour and they usually hang up, I can only assume that the promoter is going to lose a salesman.
In Beloit WI during the 50's, the local secretary of the A of C found out where a phone room was operating a high powered pitch and went the the room and pulled out the phones. The promoter left town immediately.

So in anonymous' eyes we should have a Circus hospital as well. Why should the show owner be allowed to just waste his 25% on wine, women, and Barnum?

Even better, let's have 10% go to retired circus people fund, to honor those who gave their all and got nothing in return. Then how about 5% for a circus hospital to care for those hurt, but never got paid for it or their bills.
