Buckles, are there two different Gyps? Mine doesn't accommodate much of anything. Wade Burck
I have a half dozen elephants listed bearing that name dating back to 1871.
John Cuneo also has an elephant named "GYPSY". She will be going to "PAWS" soon.
Maybe Wade Burck got "gyped" when he acquired an elephant that carries less than a full load.

Buckles: Give us a little more detail on this elephant and about Cheerful Gardner being with both Patterson's Carnival and the J E Henry Circus in 1910.
Was Gyp acquired from James Patterson by J E Henry? Or did the Henry show possibly travel with the Patterson as a backend attraction- I believe the Barnes show did this in its early life.
Also how do Glen, Hap and Ivan Henry fit into the J E Henry line?
Wade, When did you acquire an elephant?
J. E. Henry's Shows was on the road from 1902 - 1922. The sole properitor was J. E. Henry.
From 1923 - 1937, J. E. Henry and George Henry had Henry Bros. Circus.
Rebecca, why do you assume I was refering to an elephant? Wade Burck
I rest my case.
Question: I know that Rex had a Gyp on Beatty - Cole back in the 60's, but didn't he have yet another elephant with that name in the later years of his career, and would this be the one that Wade is refering to?
Two different elephants.
In 1961 the Beatty Show bought two young elephants from Tony Gentry "Burma" and "Gypsy". When Rex Williams joined the show he shortened the names to "Bee" and "Gyp".
They remained with the Beatty Show thru 1973 and were sold to a park in Mexico City.
About that same time the Ringling Show imported 7 punks for the forthcoming Ringling Park. This second "Gyp" was among their number and will shortly be making a trip to California.
I to rest my case. Wade Burck
does anyone else care to "rest their case"
this seems to be the place ! LOL
Yes Glenn, Bum,Hap,Todd and Cliff were all sons of J.E.Henry and we know of one daughter Bertha Conners, married to Al Conners.Shirley, Patti and Gary are Glenns Children.
There was a young elephant named "Gyp" with the Frank Bostock show at Coney Island, which was later purchased by Ferari and Capt. Jack Bonavita.
This elephant was badly scarred by a fire at Coney Island around 1909,that practically wiped out the show.
The fire damaged the elephant's nerves on one side and had no feeling on one of its sides that affected it for years.
