I didn't know they had African elephants back then, and with all of that stuff on their backs ? I wonder what year that would have been ???.....Barbara....

This is 1954. Photo was taken by me in Atlanta on Nov 1st of that season. The elephant is a true forest elephant named Abele (Emily to the bull men). She was obtained by Howard Bary in the Congo and sent to RBBB in 1947. She was often in the specs in following years. She died in NYC in 1956 while being marched from the Garden to the train. She was the last forest elephant with a circus in USA.
