This 1932 painting by John Steuart Curry

is titled "The Flying Codonas"

John Steuart Curry was a famous "regionalist" artist along with Thomas Hart Benton, Grant Wood and others. Most of the best known work was done around the 1930s.

Curry also did a serial study of the Clyde Beatty act. I've seen 3 of these.

If Curry had observed the rigging a little more closely, we might have better detail on Codona's fly bar.

The original of the "Flying Codonas" is in the Whitney Museum in NYC.
