The New York Hippodrome

was built in 1905 on 6th

Avenue between 43rd & 44th

At that time it was the

World's largest theater

seating 5300 & was where

Billy Rose's "Jumbo" was

presented in 1935 & also

where Houdini seemed to

make an elephant disappear

It was demolished in 39

The Cole show went in there in 1937, rivaling Ringling right across town in the Garden. Clyde Beatty had been their top feature since they debuted as The Miracle Show, in '35. During this run, Beatty made the cover of the March 29th issue of TIME Magazine.
