Helen Carpenter. A very nice lady from Jefferson, TX. The last time I saw Helen was around 2003, we stopped to fuel up at a truck stop and there was Helen waiting tables. I told her then and I still believe it now, it takes as much chutzpah to wait tables as it does to work cats. Both occupations require infinite amounts of patience and an ability to interact with other living beings on their level. I am totally sincere about my respect for waitresses- or 'servers' I guess is the PC term now- it's a tough job. Not sure I could do it. Note to all: please tip appropriately.

p.s.Just to clarify, by dealing with others "on their level" I simply meant a steady demeanor must be maintained regardless if they are friendly, indifferent or cranky.

These markings look more

like a Jaguar than Leopard

The rosettes with the dot(s) in the center and the big boxy head are a jaguar giveaway.

I can't be sure of the timeline, but it was many years back, when word went out that Helen was critically injured in a car accident. We were hearing that she endured a very long and uncertain recovery time. This would have occurred after I had met Helen on the Plunkett show, in San Antonio, in 1990. She had a very nice mixed act, and her jag was then recuperating from an attack by a co-star. At one time, Helen had associated with Red Hartman, a mistake she regretted. True to form, Red loudly claimed he had trained her act, and Helen put it in Circus Report that no, he had not.
