A wonderful family friend. I remember calling Big John in Yucaipa one day and Gudrun said he was chasing down his one elephant, Nina, who had gotten loose. I wonder if Nina is still with us? I believe she ended up on Kelly-Miller.

John Strong's Winterquarters sat adjacent to our Jungleland property. We closed in 1969, and naturally, I made many return visits to look for anything that once was ours. Over the years, some of Strong's presence remained, but at last I noticed the home was gone, then the buildings. Then, three or four trailers stood alone on the lot, and by a later visit, in 2001, even they were gone. The Strong lot is now totally empty, no sign of occupation by anyone, not even wagon tracks.

A real showman with a very big heart! John probably paid his acts more than he paid himself many times. I am sure he and Wayne Franzen are cutting up jackpots on that big grassy lot in the sky!
