Smokey told me he ran away from home as a kid, hopped a Freight train and the first stop was along side the Dailey Bros. Circus coaches.
He walked down to the lot and asked Ralph Noble for a job who replied, "We don't hire any dirty neck punks!" and he replied "It ain't dirt it's train smoke!"
Noble yelled to somebody "Take Smokey here down to Louie Reed, I hear he's short handed!"
