They were not rhe first to catch the triple, but the first to perfect it and perform it with regularity. This photo is important, as the men seen here were the complete act, with no one up there to drop bars. Their timing had to be so sharp that Ernest's flying left the bar swinging true, and that it would be in place for his flying returns. Fans of the film TRAPEZE will recall Burt Lancaster's character, Mike Ribble, campaigning for a "two-act", just the flyer and his catcher. The Clarkonians were of the purity Ribble was talking about when he said, "When circus was real, flying was a religion."
