#1 Elephant Acts

We received a call last night that Kenneth Feld is taking the Ringling Show off the road in May due to lack of interest.
No surprise but I hate to hear the loss of work for Circus People!
Was it Hemingway that said "Elephants are the pegs Circuses hang from?"

Maybe someone who loves and understands the circus will step up.

Maybe at Monday's luncheon I can talk Chic into buying the title.

I believe the quote is "Clowns and elephants are the pegs upon which the circus is hung" and it was said by P. T. Barnum.

This is really, really sad news. Smaller shows will now be pressured to follow suit. All those people and animals out of work. I am so grateful to have been part of this noble business for as long as I was and when I was. It feels like the winds of change are intensifying into a hurricane.

To hell with buying it pal

I'll just go back to the

original TGSOE Globe logo

instead of the modern style

& frame out a big mud show

with a real canvas duck top

& let him sue me

Remember in May of 2016, the Feld family wins a 14 year old court battle against the anti-animal groups ( along with getting a 25.2 million dollar settlement ). The Feld family instead of taking a victory tour and getting in front of the public showing their well cared for animals and the great people that take care of them, instead surrender to the anti-animal groups by pulling the elephants?

According to Juliette Feld, pulling the elephants caused a "Dramatic Drop" in ticket sales. What kind of signal did they expect to send to the public when they pulled the elephants?

And what kind of marketing survey company told them business would be fine without elephants?

And now we have to endure Newkirk and Pacelle taking the victory lap of killing RBBB and displacing all of the people working on the shows.

I wonder if Feld Motorsports will now remove the blocks they have on the films at the Circus World Museum, etc as they will not be performing anymore and will not have to worry about any class-action lawsuits regarding what a circus performance is?

Very honored and proud since 2000 to have worked with Jeff Meyer and Brad Bryant on Ringling Bros.' outreach to America's troops and their families. High points were joining DoD's America Supports You team and Ringling Bros. proclaiming the Fisher House Foundation a Lifetime Circus Celebrity for its service to military families undergoing medical crises (fisherhouse.org). Couldn't have done it, though, without selfless, dedicated performers and staff on the circus units and in the regions.

I’ve always been of the opinion that the current crop of Felds were never comfortable owning a circus, which only came to them by way of inheritance. Compared to the editions produced by Mattel and Irvin the good, what they were offering was a joke, and I’m surprised that it took this long for members of the public to wake up to the fact that the Ringling name was being used to rip them off. The Ringling-Barnum-GSOE title still has a certain amount of value, and perhaps someone who has a better affinity for the circus than the Felds do will buy it and being it back, bigger and better than ever. One can only hope.

I see a comment asking what will become of the employees?
Each will be handed a Dukie Bag and a road map!

Dates to remember on the circus; 1938, 1956 and 2017.
For whom ever pulled the elephants off of Ringling may be remembered for a big mistake.
And the poor show folks we all feel sorry for.

Bob Momyer said...

It all began when Irvin died and there was no one left who loved the circus and circus folks. Like him or not, Mr. Feld loved his circus.

Wonder what the tax will be now on the 580,000 sq foot building in Elleton. State and local government kicked over 4 million for them to bring the circus and jobs to Elleton. Plus all the tax on the inventory of the two shows sitting there.

Mr. Eric, if you are interested in inheritance issues and RBBB, you can download "Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance" Ringling Bros - Barnum & Bailey V. Ringling

Bad appointments and empty-core cycling at the circus.

Fresh set of eyes and not too many mistakes, 25 pages of history from a non-circus point of view.

I hope that they will think about returning the wagons that they strong armed from the State of Florida / Ringling Museum as they won't have much use for them now.

Absolutely right Bob Irvin

was dedicated to his love

& respect for the circus &

kept the flame for "TGSOE"

When he died I backed away

Allen Bloom who was inducted

into the "Ring Of Fame" just

yesterday was unceremoniously

drummed out like many others

but was the show's last hope

It was Allen's genius that

enabled Irvin Feld's success

Well Said Eric Beheim and Bob Momyer....The last Ringling show I attended has been well over ten years. Even then the entire production was so watered down that I could barely sit through the entire performance. Much like Eric, I cannot believe it has taken the buying public this long to wake up. After the death of Irwin Feld, you could see the gradual decline each year of the performance.....How sad this had to happen.....Maybe the circus Gods will have someone like the Disney Organization step in and purchase RBBB and bring it back to the GSOE status. Stranger things have happened......
