Murray Hill and his version of an "elephant empress". Before the "Mighty Mites" Murray had a chimp, "Chatter", and did a kid's TV show in Chicago. I first met him when I was a volunteer keeper at the Lincoln Park Children's Zoo and Murray could over and visit.

Murray was a highly colorful Brooklyn boy. We sat side by side in Hyattsville, Maryland, to testify before the veterinarians and lawyers of the committee forming up the Animal Welfare Act of 1970. Sitting with us was Doc Henderson, my fellow Texan. Murray's Mighty Mites were a fast-moving quintet of flash and style.

Slight correction that those elephant historians probably already caught. Murray's original Mighty Mites were Onyx, Tory, and Dutchess. When he went to the Polack show after Buckles he added Stella and Louie. Opal came in for the one-foot finale. Murray was a colorful and entertaining character.
