More Clowns #1

And on a brighter note we see Horace Laird at right on the Cole Show whom I remember picked up the mail at the local Post Office each morning and delivered it around the lot.
He must have had some sort of official document to do this.

Jimmy Armstrong blew the warning bugle for many seasons. DeMille included him doing this on RBB. He continued this important role on Beatty and Castle. I'm not sure when he took on mailman duties, but he had the job on Castle. He brought his own rules to the job. When showfolks surrounded him for mail, he'd carefully note the addressee, and hand them their mail turned upside down to thwart the nosey. As a midget clown, he became known all around the route, especially since he often had to rush off downtown in makeup. So far as I know, this was all the credentials he needed.

I handled the mail on the Cetlin & Wilson Shows in the late 1960s and all I did was go to the post office and identify myself! No paper work and we played some big towns like Richmond, VA.
