The time has come!

Not  many comments any more.

I'm going to give it a rest.

I have a comment about that.

I understand your being discouraged with the drop in comments. Back before you started the Blog there were a privileged few of us who got regular e-mails from you on circus subjects.

Can we talk you into doing that for the folks out here who do read and comment and occasionally send pix in?

But if you are just tuckered out with the whole thing, let me be one of the first say this has been a wonderful ride and God bless you for the time and effort you have given it and us.

I feel like this is the last night of a great get-together when I know I will never see some of these people again. Don't get me tearing up here.

Thanks for the compliment but but compared with past interest I starting to feel like a silly old man muttering away.

Ole Whitey said...

You too? I frequently notice people rolling their eyes. And in the middle of my best stories!

Yes, we mutter but after all we have so much to mutter about!

We need to go sit in front of some country court house with other old mutterers and whittle, spit and tell lies about when we were young.

I think it was Dick Conover who, on hearing that the Colonel had passed away, said, "Who are we going to ask now?"

What a pleasure and treat to look at your Blog on a daily basis...In fact, I look at this Blog first....Whatever your decision may be, we all understand, and have enjoyed the behind the scenes look at a life we all love. Or as Floyd King would say, "Son, never give up". Best to you and your family as always.

I've been rehashing the same pictures over and over and can't add much.
If anyone wants to chat it's fine but I'm but I'm sleeping in from now on.

I don't know what I will do with all of my extra time if I don't have your blog to consult daily.

It's been a great ride and I enjoyed every post. Thanks for all of the great memories.

All the best,

Don Covington

How will we start the day? Never felt I had to comment, unless I had something to add, but it sure is great to pay attention and be educated by a savvy bunch of circus folk. Someone has to keep the flame alive.

Mr Woodcock,
I appreciate that everyone has the right to retire. The amount of interest, joy, knowledge and your own personal time has been an incredible contribution to the history of circus, past and contemporary. I, like many others read/study your blog with the eagerness of a young child and look forward to the ' next instalment' every day. It would be such a shame to see what was and continue to learn more from all of your readership. I know that there will be elephant barns around the world saddened if you choose to retire as your elephant knowledge is unsurpassed in the current era. Thankyou for your time and knowledge and I hope we can look forward to many more days of Buckles Blog.

Well if you have to take another

screwing pal this aint so bad

A "mis" is as good as a mile

Membership in this circus sandbox

club should have some requirement

such as monthly comment minimums

I'll be happy to keep sending

stuff whether it gets in or not

Clearly you had no idea of the

vast number of gawkers that just

aint squawkers

Guess you didn't get the post I thought I sent yesterday right after Charles Hanson's.
So let me be very brief today:

God bless you real good and many, many thanks for so much.

Ryan Easley said...

Well that sucks. I assumed my numerous questions about elephant records were becoming annoying. Forget the crummy circus stuff. Start posting elephant cards every day !

Looks like the silent majority was too silent. Blog on !!

I guess my message got lost as well.

I understand your wanting to slow this down. Bless you Buckles. You have offered a wide range of unwritten circus history in these last 10 years. This is circus history that will never be found in a book on a shelf.

Our best wishes to you and Barbara.

Bob

I hope people continue to send in pictures I might comment on.

My earlier blog may have been lost. It will not be the same start to our day with your blog. It was great to read the history of the circus business especially for those of us who weren't born into it but came later in life. Hope you'll reconsider but if not a sincere THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.

I'll try again too. I just retired from Disney. It was great fun and an amazing experience but it was time. I can understand the desire for a break. I join the crowd in thanks for all the entertainment and education.

I'm a poor curator of photos, etc. but maybe with a little more spare time,I'll start digging around for something of interest.

Buckles - - Mine got lost too. I want you to know that I, like many others, read your blog religiously every day. Yours was a true work of love. We will all miss it. I was juts about to send a number of RBBB 1945 photos that have never been circulated. Too bad. Take care old friend and fellow octogenarian.

Hi Buckles:

I just wanted to say that I have noticed that all the comments on this post today are from your male followers.
I as a woman would like to say that I shall miss your wonderful Blog just as much as the men folk.
I too always start my day with your Blog and a cup of tea.
(Guess you knew I came over from England 47 years ago.)
Kindest regards to you and your family.
SUE.

Glad to hear you might be sleeping in a bit later. Being up and working at that time of day is overrated! (Says the guy who is reworking baggage conveyors in the airport overnight)

Your blog reminds me of having breakfast in a diner and being able to listen in awe to stories being told at the next table by guys who really seem to know what they are talking about, because they actually were there. Its the highlight of my day following these conversations, I tried to be polite and not interrupt with dumb questions, but trust me I am engaged in the conversation. Thank you so much for sharing your historical perspective.

Roger Smith said...

I pray you will leave all this forever up and available, so we can return for the gold mine of history that you gave us. Speaking as one voice, I have come back countless times to re-visit photos and comments that make each return a blessed reassurance that these treasures are still there. Please let this be the show that never tears down.

I started reading your blog only a year ago, and got hooked. I learned about you in connection with researching my dad's work with Ringling Brothers Sarasota in 1933. One of your favorite offerings was a photo of Bill Emery, elephant trainer. (Dad was Tarzan of the Elephants, and had mentioned working with Emery.) Thanks!

Funny what you remember. Some years back I met you on the bridge, or there abouts at CWM. I said something to the effect that you don't know me but I am Bob Good's son. If I recall correctly you said, "Robert D. Good, 1609 Turner St, Allentown, Pa." You had looked at the back of one too many of my Dad's pics! Thanks for the memories.

Buckles, you have been my start of the day .Like all of us here and many many others. I can understand your feelings to load the truck one last time. But know that you were very much appreciated for your knowledge, stories, and humor. Thank my friend for all you have done..
