1948 RBBB #1

The Rose Gold pictures brought back memories of my often told stories on the Blog of my mother and I seeing the show in 1948 when I was 13, Cap Curtis got us front row seats.
Sixty six years have elapsed and I have yet to see it's like.

My very first Circus. At the olde Garden. I was 6. Thanks for such a great start to today.

Not meant to belittle that show

but it was certainly enhanced

through the eyes of a youthful

circus afficionado as yourself

It was a mere 30 years later

that your illustrious troupe

were the featured performers

That "olde Garden" you mention

Paul was actually Garden #3 on

Eighth Ave between 49th & 50th

At least for some early years

in the "new Garden" (#4) many

"seasoned" folks still used

the expressions of 49th & 50th

to refer to the front & back

tracks & for entrances

That was the year I was born and two months before my birth my father and grandparents took my older brother and sister to see the Ringling show. It was probably to give my mother some rest time as she stayed home so I can't claim to ever have been on a lot when Ringling was under canvas! The program book, however, stayed around the house for some years and was the first one I ever perused. I know its pages like the back of my hand!
