What was the "floor" they were rolling on? How smooth was it really, considering they were in a tent on a grass field? Was it plywood or similar and it interlocked some how?

I only remember going to one tent show when I was young (in the mid 60's) and it was CBCB, and I only remember the cats, elephants and flyers.

I believe unicycle people refer to a tall one like this as a giraffe.
