Parley Baer #3

Parley's 4-shot composite, a medium falling out of favor with actors now, with the instant sendings of photographs over the internet, and
actors setting up entire websites promoting their images and credits.

I will never forget the scene of Parley and Marlon Brando in the "Young Lions". Great acting and Parley played the German officer perfectly. johnny. I am happy to have known and been friends with Ernestine and Parley.Great folks.

Most of their scenes for THE YOUNG LIONS were filmed in Paris. Parley and Dean Martin were sitting with Brando in a fancy restaurant there, when along came a waitress with a full urn of boiling hot coffee. She recognized Brando, got excited, and turned over the hot coffee into Brando's lap. He was seriously burned, and was hospitalized for emergency treatment. (Paris, France, of course, not Paris, Texas.)

Parley's major scene was as the drunken Nazi Sergeant Brandt, recogizing the loss of the war, and its futility, which changed the outlook of Brando's character, Christian. Parley told of working with the actress he didn't like who played his wife. He had to kiss her in a shot, and the director demanded a series of re-takes, which he knew nettled Parley. When he at last wrapped the scene, Parley was still steamed over having the kiss the actress, and asked when the director got the right take. With a grin, he said, "The first one, Parley, of course!" Parley said, "You rotten son-of-a-bitch."
