This angle shows the inner workings of the contraption. I was surprised to see that the elephants were literally bolted in. What with all the blankets, howdahs, ox-yokes etc. and getting the riders assembled and mounted, it must have taken the best part of an hour to get ready.
seems cumbersome...and dangerous...what if somebody stumbled (animal or person) or one of the bulls got hung up on something--like a guy wire or quarter pole...it would have been chaos,

For those of you with Macs -
a tip I just learned -
Press the control key AND scroll with two fingers upward on the touch pad, this will enlarge the photo.
Once you have it enlarged you can move left to right with just one finger.
