Look at those blankets and wardrobe.
Mayme, where are you when Ken & Nicole need you so badly?
There was a similarly clad elephant "Toby" not included in the picture, all trained by John Herriott.
In the Fall of this year 1969, all three were sold to Irvin Feld and placed on the Red Unit where "Toby" remains until this day.

How long do good blankets last? What happens to the old ones?

Like anything else, the better they are made the longer they last.
Seems like those Cole Show blankets lasted forever.
Ringling Show blankets were designed to last for two years but the one I donated to the Ringling Museum could be impressively worn today.
